This limited edition He’e necklace was inspired by my hometown, Waiheʻe and my best-friend, Tessa, a Marine Biologist at the Maui Ocean Center and an avid free diver who I refer to as the He’e Whisperer. Over the years, I’ve watched Tessa befriend these intelligent little creatures forming fascinating peculiar little bonds.
Of all my pieces, this one carries the deepest sentiment. It symbolizes my hometown, Waihee, one of the few places the eyes of my childhood still recognize—the surnames, the landscape, and old school Hawaiian hospitality and aloha. Despite decades of change, the heart and soul of this humble little Hawaiian town endures because its people remain: farmers, fishermen, working-class locals, radical unkos, and generational Hawaiians. My home-sweet-Waihee, which translates to “water octopus,” is a combination of the words wai (water) and he’e (octopus).
Fashioned from mixed metals, a sterling silver octopus rests on a 14KT gold-fill disk, suspended from an 18″ or 20″ 14KT Gold-fill ball chain.
Artist Note: “I wear the 20″ every day and never take it off. It looks great on its own and layers perfectly with my 16″ and 18″ necklaces.”
She’s a rare one! Get her before she’s gone! Only ten pieces of this exquisite limited edition necklace will be crafted, ever!
